Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 gets litter-free stamp

Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 gets litter-free stamp

KOTA KINABALU: Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 (QEH2) received the first litter-free hospital stamp from Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) yesterday.

Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said QEH2 is a good platform to raise awareness on cleanliness to the public.

“You can be the ambassador for the people to take care of cleanliness. This could be the most suitable institution to further expand City Hall's (DBKK) efforts to take care of our environment,” said Yeo at the City Hall litter-free certificate presentation ceremony at the QEH2 auditorium in Damai, Luyang yesterday.

“Apart from supporting the anti-litterbug campaign, the management of QEH2 has taken proactive steps towards establishing a litter-free hospital committee and mobilizer campaign.

“Among the activities that have been implemented were video shows and bunting installations to spread the word to the general public about the anti-litterbug campaign and litter-free hospital campaign in the foyer (waiting area),” Yeo noted.

In addition, he said QEH2 had also assigned security personnel to direct litterers at the hospital to properly dispose of their rubbish at the right place.

Yeo said QEH2 support for City Hall's litter-free campaign brings the number of litter-free premises to 200, and its Strategy 3B: Bawa Beg Bah (bring your own bag) to 44 participations thus far.

QEH2 director Dr Razak Tambi said incorporating the litter-free culture was easy with the hospital's existing Ecosystem Conducive Public Sector (EKSA) and ISO 9001 standards.

He believed QEH2 will be able to maintain its newly adopted responsibilities and remain a litter-free hospital with the help of its staff and the public.

Sabah Health Department (medical) chief senior assistant director Dr Abdul Kahar Asis, Kota Kinabalu health officer Dr Jiloris F Donny and City Hall Environmental Health Department director Robert Lipon were also at the ceremony.
